With the formal introduction of the Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE), a government-supported platform intended to offer a safe, open, and completely regulated market for diamond trading, Qatar has made significant progress in bolstering its standing in the global diamond and precious stones sector. The project seeks to draw in both local and foreign players looking for a reliable location to conduct high-value transactions.
By supporting Qatar’s reputation as a reliable international trading hub, the new exchange is anticipated to assist the nation’s long-term economic diversification plan, which aims to move away from the energy industry. The exchange supports Qatar’s objectives for sustainable growth by offering a non-oil-related source of income.
Regulated and Secure Trading Environment
The Qatar Diamond Exchange, according to the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ), has a safe trading floor, private negotiation suites, advanced surveillance systems, and dedicated on-site security. Members will also benefit from customs processing and certification services within the same facility, allowing transactions to be completed efficiently under one roof.
Members can also take advantage of certification and customs processing services offered in the same building, which enables quick transaction completion.
Adhering to Global Standards
Qatar’s most recent accomplishment is its admission as a full member of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in 2021, which demonstrates its dedication to encouraging the responsible and transparent trade of conflict-free rough diamonds.
Qatar strengthened its regulatory framework in 2025 by designating the Qatar Free Zones as the country’s sole authorized entry and exit point for rough diamonds under the Kimberley Process.
Increasing Industry Opportunities
Diamond traders, manufacturers, cutters, polishers, service providers, and industry groups are all eligible to join the Qatar Diamond Exchange. Members gain access to trading licenses, professional sorting facilities, independent valuation services, secure vault storage, and specialized insurance solutions tailored to the diamond industry.
The exchange also plans to host a series of rough and polished diamond tenders, which will connect producers from Africa and Asia with buyers across Europe and the Gulf region.
Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani, CEO of the Qatar Free Zones Authority, referred to the Qatar Diamond Exchange as a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to diversify its economy and strengthen its standing as a reliable participant in the international diamond market. The establishment of the Qatar Diamond Exchange reflects the country’s broader vision of becoming a leading global business and logistics hub while promoting responsible trade practices and attracting international investment.
